Ask the pilot: Who cares what planes look like? I do! Why do they have to look so ugly and boring?

This column was slated to run in last week's slot, sidetracked at the last minute by the <a href=http://www.salon.com/tech/col/smith/2008/08/21/askthepilot287/>plane crash in Spain</a>.
